from 54 reviewsThe diamond lapping film is amazing! I was able to flatten the backs of plane blades and chisels in less than half the time it usually takes me with other products such as sandpaper, diamond stones and water stones. It took made an arduous task actually pleasant.
Some of the very best customer service I’ve ever seen- prompt and courteous replies, very informative. Regarding the product, I purchased the 180 grit diamond lapping film to reprofile my knives. While it does work, it takes a bit longer to eat away metal compared to an Atoma 140 diamond plates. However, the scratch pattern this film leaves behind is much better. The scratches are more uniform, refined, crisper, and overall better looking than any other diamond plates I’ve used for reprofiling. I believe if Sharpo made a grit in the 100 range, it would be perfect for my needs. I’d love to see them provide even lower grit ranges.
These lapping films are awesome. I use them for my woodworking chisels, horology tweezers, horology screwdrivers, and knives at home. These are so good at sharpening that I’ve sort of left my japanese sharpening stones to collect dust!
I bought the lapping paper in lieu of Arkansas stones for dressing watchmakers screwdrivers. The film works much faster and is easy to use on the plate glass. A great recommendation from a friend.
Purchased these films along with sharpening kit, film cuts fast and is versatile for use.
Happy with purchase.
Excellent product and what a value. I have purchased so much from this company as the service and prices are terrific.
Very happy the the product, price, and service.
I was buying precut strips for the Worksharp Precision Elite knife sharpener, paying $20 for 3 strips of 8 different grits.
With this kit I cut my own strips and saved $140!!
Plus, it’s just a great product if you are an OCD blade sharpening fool😂
Thanks! Chris, KY.
I purchased the 1200 and 16000 diamond lapping films with 1 piece of glass, to sharpen a grafting knife.
The 1200 cuts very fast, and the 16000 removed the burr and polished the edge after 5 passes. Total sharpening time was barely 1 minute. The results were scary sharp. I am pleased with this purchase.
I do suggest Sharpo allow customers to mix and match film gritt sizes. MOQ of 3 sheets per gritt is a policy that caused me to order less. I would have bought more gritts and glass but I dont need or want 3 sheets of each gritt. Also I did have some trouble applying the lapping films to the glass to avoid bubbles and would have liked some included instructions. A simple sticker, stamp, or printing on the back of the films would have been enough to avoid first time pitfalls.
Thank you
I'm a knife making hobbiest. Been sharpening things my whole life. I've tried many different systems -- eventually I have developed my own with products from several different companies. Sharpo has proven to be a nice system . The grits on paper glued on the glass plate is a great idea. I have made it part of my regimen for sharpening my knives, but I can see that it would easily be used on any surface to provide the best edge I have ever been able to sharpen a knife on. I will continue to use this system.

Works like a charm. I’m getting a mirror like finish on my carbide gravers
I am a woodworking teacher and recently provided these lapping films to my students for use in a hand tool sharpening class, and they did not disappoint. These films did an excellent job at creating flat, polished backs and sharp edges to all of the chisels and planes we ran over them. They also held up very well to several hours of continuous use. Super easy to apply to glass plates and left no residue after removing. I haven't used them long enough to see how long they will hold up, but based on what I've seen so far I imagine they will last quite a while. Certainly an excellent, low cost option for tool sharpening.
These films cut beautifully, and very fast. I tried them in front of a tool sharpening class alongside the aluminum oxide films, and while both were effective, the diamond films were significantly faster. Seemed to obtain a polished, sharp cutting edge on my chisels and planes in just a couple passes. They were also very easy to remove from the glass substrate with no residue left behind. They seemed to hold up very well to 2 days of continual use in class. I plan to keep them around for a while to get a better idea of how long they last, but from my initial experience, I imagine they will be with me for a very long time. I'd say they are well worth having in my sharpening kit.
First off, I ordered the wrong thing. I promptly emailed the support address and claimed I did not get a grit I was expecting. Then I sent another email telling them it as my mistake and I ordered the right thing. Then I got a phone call from this guy who was super polite and after I explained that there was nothing wrong he gave me some pointers on using the product. I will shop excellent customer service all day long.
As for the product, I have four new wind river planes and I have hours trying to lap them with my Dimond steel plates. No luck. They are so badly out of whack I can't get them to smooth out at all. The diamond films even though I di not get the course one I wanted still cut the Wind river irons in to shape quickly. I did deviate a slight bit and lubricated with Crud cutter. The glass plates ate substantial and the edges are well polished. (I got a float glass plate a few years ago and you could cut yourself on the edge by looking at it wrong.) The grits cut much faster than Aluminum oxide of silica carbide sand paper. I am thrilled with this.
Somehow, I missed this in my shopping cart and found it in the package when it was delivered. My fault entirely. That said, the glass plate appears to be perfectly flat, and measures 9" x 3". The 9" length just barely fits on this holder. I find this to be an odd size given that it does not match any of the sizes of the sharpening film I ordered from Sharpo. I am sure I will find a use for it in the future. In the meantime, I can use the holder with whetstones that are 9" or less in length.
